Honestly, I don’t even know why this page is necessary. I think I can safely assume that if you’re on my site, you already know a little something about me. Maybe you googled me. Maybe you came here looking for my Ping.fm WordPress plugin. Maybe you noticed that I played Daniel Craig’s stunt double in Casino Royale. The important thing is that you’re here and now you can read about how awesome I am.
Having only written celebrities’ autobiographies for them in the past, I’m not entirely sure about what I’d like to include in my own biography. Should it be humorous? Funny? Comical? Facetious? Perhaps a well-balanced mix of all those things would make for a good bio. My goal here is to take you, the esteemed reader, on a rollercoaster ride of emotions through my life. Failing that, what follows is what I’ve come up with thus far.
I’ve been publishing a formal “blog” since 2002, which is about the time when most techies understood what the word meant, but I’ve been creating content on the Web since the late 90s. I’m a software engineer and student by day and a self-proclaimed word maven and open source software hacker by night. If you must know, I use a black MacBook running OS X 10.5 (Leopard), a ThinkPad running Windows Vista, and several Linux boxes running Debian, but I’m fairly proud of the fact that I can jump on any computer and start using it.
In a previous career, but mostly just in my dreams, I served a short stint with the CIA protecting our assets in Venezuela.
Why Scrumptious Word Morsels?
Honestly, I don’t know. The original name of this site was simply going to be “mattjacob.com” or the “mattjacob.com blog”. That seemed too boring when I first installed WordPress, so I typed in “Scrumptious Word Morsels” after thinking about it for approximately 22 seconds. As is the case with most things done impulsively, the name has grown on me over the years, and I think it somewhat reflects what this blog is about.
The word “scrumptious” is similar in meaning to “excellent”, or more closely, “pleasing to the senses”. When I think of “morsel”, I think of Nestle Toll House Morsels, which is basically just their product name for chocolate chips. I don’t think I’d have any trouble polishing off a whole bag of those, but they’re also small and bite-sized, and that’s why I picked that word. This blog is broken up into bite-sized posts, but you could just as easily consume the whole thing by browsing the archives.
Put it all together and you’ve got “excellent fragments of tasty words”. It’s kind of a stretch when you look at the literal equivalency, but overall, I think it works out alright.
Let’s get in touch!
So, that brief introduction wasn’t enough to dissuade you and you still want to contact me, huh? Very well. I’ll have to let my writers know that they’re not doing their job properly if people are still getting through somehow.
Even though Gmail’s spam filter would probably block everything that would come through by posting my email address on this page, why take the risk? Click the ellipsis below to see my real email address and help digitize some old books at the same time.
